What is Coconut Water Exactly?

Share article:

You know what water is and you know what coconuts are, but what exactly is coconut water? And no, it’s not water infused with coconuts, or special water for watering coconut palms.

The coconut, fruits of the coconut palm tree, may not make you monetarily rich like the song “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts” suggests, but it is the source of coconut water, which is rich in helpful ingredients.

Read on to learn more about what coconut water is and where it comes from.

What is Coconut Water?
Coconut water is a clear liquid with what some describe a nut-flavor. For Southeast Asian nations, who also harvest coconuts for their flesh, oil, and milk, coconut water has long been a prevalent staple.  In Central America, coconut water is called “agua de pipa” or “water pipe.”

Coconut water, a nutritious, natural drink, is one of the highest sources of electrolytes known to man. Specifically, coconut water contains minerals like magnesium and potassium, even more than what’s found in a banana. Additionally, it contains no fat or cholesterol and is very low in calories, which are mostly from natural sugars.

Where Does Coconut Water Come From?
Coconut water is found in the cavity of the coconut you see when you crack one open. As a coconut matures, the white flesh absorbs and replaces coconut water, which is also absorbed into the air. Therefore, coconut water must be found in young, green coconuts which are generally still attached to the tree.

This differs from coconut milk or cream. Coconut milk is made by boiling equal amounts of water and shredded coconut together until foamy, then straining, while coconut cream is made in a similar fashion but with a higher shredded coconut to water ratio.

What is PHENOM™ Coconut Water?
PHENOM™ is made from 100% natural coconut water, contains no artificial flavors , preservatives or added sugars, is low in calories, and contains zero cholesterol. And the best part, it’s fused with GNC power for more benefits.

Now that you know what coconut water is, learn more about the different PHENOM™ products.

im from the islands of jamaica and I used to drink coconut water if not everyday very frequently. i used to blend the “meat” as we sometimes call it to make our own coconut milk which we use as an ingredient in island dish rice and peas. I also use to boil the hardened pulp from the dry coconuts with sugar to make a candy we call coconut drops. since i live in the states i cant get fresh coconuts like im used to but i buy them in the cans which is almost as good as the real deal. in my country they mix it with lime sometimes and drink it to reduce high blood pressure
