Why Coconut Water? Overall Coconut Water Health Benefits

Share article:

Equilibrium is important. What goes up, must come down—what is lost, must be replaced. When you work out, your body sweats to cool itself. The result is the loss of valuable water and critical electrolytes like sodium potassium and chloride. To keep balanced, it’s essential to replace what’s lost.

Packed with vital nutrients, refreshing, healthy Phenom coconut water is a natural way for you to replace electrolytes and help maximize hydration after a workout.

And while Phenom coconut water is great for before, during, and after a workout, there are many instances in life when you can reap from coconut water health benefits. So keep reading to find out:

  • Who is at Risk of Dehydration?
  • When You Need Coconut Water
  • Other Coconut Water Health Benefits
  • Why Phenom Coconut Water?

Who is at Risk of Dehydration?
Coconut water helps to re-hydrate and replenish the 5 electrolytes you have in your body: potassium, calcium, sodium, phosphorous, and magnesium. In fact, coconut water is isotonic with your blood; therefore, it is sometimes used as a plasma substitute in extreme emergencies.

While everyone gets dehydrated, there are times when re-hydration is especially important. Those particularly at risk of dehydration are those who are:

  • Athletes
  • Pregnant or nursing mothers
  • Infants and young children
  • Elderly or ill
  • Consuming alcohol

When You Need Coconut Water
Coconut water is a great way to treat dehydration and prevent conditions that occur due to loss of hydration. Dehydration and loss of electrolytes occurs at every stage of your life, including:

  • When you’re sick
  • When you take medication
  • After you exercise
  • After alcohol consumption
  • From heat
  • During pregnancy
  • As you age

Knowing when you’re likely to get dehydrated is important in knowing when to rehydrate to avoid the problems dehydration causes. In addition to helping your body work properly, regularly replacing electrolytes and maximizing hydration will help to prevent:

  • Headaches
  • Muscle cramping
  • Fatigue

However, coconut water health benefits extend beyond re-hydration and replenishment of electrolytes.

Other Coconut Water Health Benefits
With a high concentration of potassium and low sodium content, coconut water may help to lower high blood pressure, as blood pressure is regulated in part by a balance of potassium and sodium within the cells.

The health benefits of coconut water extend to the way you look and feel. For example, coconut water adds moisture to your skin helping hydrate it from the inside out. It may also help promote weight maintenance or loss since it contains fiber, which slows the absorptions of the sugars that lead to fat-storage. And speaking of sugar, coconut water has less total sugar as well as calories in comparison with other sports drinks, so your intake will be less.

Some other coconut water health benefits may include:

  • Kidney stone prevention and treatment
  • Anti-viral, -fungal, and -bacterial properties
  • Acid reflux prevention
  • Digestion aid

Why Phenom Coconut Water?
Phenom is made from 100% natural coconut water, contains no artificial flavors, preservatives, or added sugars, is low in calories, and contains zero cholesterol.

And the best part, Phenom coconut water is infused with GNC power to make this great drink even better.

How will you personally benefit from Phenom coconut water?

Thanks for this! I have had friends tell me that coconut water is beneficial but they can never tell me why. I had no idea it could help with blood pressure. My blood pressure has been running dangerously high due to my stressful job and I have had to cut my salt intake because of it. Now, I am hoping maybe coconut water will help to keep it low. The only thing I am wondering about now is if it has sugar in it…going to search the blog more. ; )

Being a full-time single mom and full-time student takes a huge toll on you stress wise. I’ve been trying different things to help keep my body in check especially right now as this semester of school draws to an end. Coconut water sounds like it just might be the key to helping keep my body more stable and healthy. Thanks for all the information about it. Can’t wait to try it!

  6. April Taylor says:

I have heard coconut water is really good for you, and with me starting a new diet program (watching calories, getting excersize.. the good old fashioned way) I am excited to try it. I have drank coconut milk directly out of a coconut, but it is awfully messy and difficult to punch a hole in one of those suckers.. lol.

  7. RJ says:

Coconut water really is an all natural sports drink. I really don’t know what I’d do without it! I workout for about 2 hours a day & always replenish with coconut water vs sports drinks that contain artificial ingredients and way more sugar than necessary, which I believe sort of defeats the purpose of all the hard work I put in the gym. I no longer feel sore after training too!
I like the Phenom with antioxidants the most, because antioxidants are vital during working out. Exercise causes the production of free radicals, which ages is…sad but true. Making sure you have your antioxidants before and after exercise will help fight this free radical production

  8. Angela gilbert says:

I am really surprised to read that cocoanut water can lower blood pressure and assist with acid reflux.
Both are great benefits in addition to replacing potassium and replenishing electrolytes.
My daughter runs on the cross country team and I would love to provide the team with cocoanut milk water during their next meet.

  9. Candy says:

I plan to use coconut water for many things. First, it would be a good source of hydration for my softball team. This would also help introduce the product to them for future buying. 20. Lisa says:

My husband is active duty military and away from home often, our two-year old is VERY active, and our two teens can be high maintenance. With summer approaching and all three girls home full-time at once, I am hopeful that Phenom will keep this middle-aged woman hydrated and prevent fatigue so I can be the mom/wife I want to be and not, as my girls sometimes put it, a “crabby-patty”.

  21. Cindy Gerlach says:

After moving to the desert (Arizona) I quickly saw that plain water was not going to be enough to stave off dehydration. Whenever I can get fresh coconuts, I do so to drink the water. But pre-packaged coconut water is a great alternative! Healthy and delicious. I feel really refreshed after drinking a bottle of coconut water.

  22. Eric Barber says:

My wife has suffered from kidney stones for the last several years. Is it true that coconut water will help to reduce the risk of kidney stones? If so I would love a sample for her. If it will help with her problem she will gladly purchase it on a regular basis…. if she likes it of course! Thank you

  23. natalie m says:

oops, I left my comment on the wrong page - I was hopeful that this product would not give me the type of cramps that some of these drinks give me. I stick mainly to water - but would be quite eager to try something that tastes good and is good for me. I ride horses both for pleasure and competitively and am need of something that hydrates.

  24. Carrie Crossland says:

I am very excited to try coconut water. I’ve always had superior health, but for the last year have been struggling w/ 2 herniated discs, one impinging on a nerve and the other VERY close to the nerve. I’ve now had 4 cortisone injections, which only give temporary relief. I refuse to take opiates/narcotics for relief, Aleve gives me so/so relief, and am looking for anything holistic that will bring me back to my healthy self! THANK YOU!!!

I also wanted to mention that there are now studies that are starting to prove that coconut can protect the brain from Alzheimer’s Disease and other brain disorders (this is coming from a M.D. I know personally who has actually done this research on her own husband who has A.D. Her name is Dr. Mary Newport. You can look up her work online. It is pretty amazing stuff).

What I love about PHENOM is that it is fortified with even more vitamins and minerals than regular coconut water. So it’s even BETTER for me than the stuff straight out of the coconut! And great after intense workouts.

I never thought about coconut water because I knew that water is really good for the body to drink 8 cups of water everyday. But I didn’t think coconut water would also be beneficial. I assumed that it could be just marketed for flavoring rather than health benefits. But I never thought it can also help the skin because my skin can sometimes look dry and flakey so drinking coconut water will help give my skin some moisture.

  42. scott says:

What makes it better than the mineral waters?

  43. Erik Medearis says:

  44. Jessica says:

I love coconut water! I have a hard time drinking my recommended amount of water per day and coconut water has become a favorite way for me to get more fluids. I actually find it more refreshing than plain water and I don’t have to worry about all of the fluoride and other junk that the city puts into the water supply.

  45. TRISH says:

I have always been told that coconut water makes you lethargic. Who knew it could have all these benefits. I just always liked the taste. Thank you for the other side of the story.

  46. Deb Merritt says:

It sounds like this would be a perfect drink for me to stay hydrated as I take diuretics in my blood pressure pills. I have a hard time getting time to drink enough water while I am working. It would help me keep my potassium level up. I get muscle cramps sometimes from not enough potassium. I would love to try your product!

25 years ago I went on a long vacation to Brazil. While I was there I learned so much about Coconut water and its benefits. Not only the nutritional well being it adds but the subtle flavors and aromas using coconut water can add to your favorite dishes. Imagine a nice fluffy dish of jasmine rice with the hint of coconut with your favorite seafood dish, or poaching your sea bass in coconut water..yummy….or just a nice cool drink of coconut water while dreaming of a tropical island……even more yummy!!

Coconut water is one of my absolute favorite drinks. It’s one of my favorite recovery methods after work outs. This product looks awesome!

  64. How fantastic! I’ve been seeing coconut water around and have heard good things about it, but I’ve never read what the actual benefits are. I love the idea that it is a natural way to balance electrolytes without all of the added sugars and chemicals (or IV therapy lol). Coconut really is a superfood. I’ve been digging coconut oil lately and low glycemic coconut sugar, but would love to try coconut water as well. As a long distance runner, I’m sure I would feel better from it.

  66. Martha says:

I have tried coconut water once or twice before when I was training for my second half marathon. I’m a bit curious about the low sodium aspect of your product (and coconut waters in general) — for athletes, isn’t sodium an important part of the hydration process? Do you recommend that athletes using coconut water supplement it with something else to provide sodium?

  67. shane says:

Coconut water tasted disgusting. Got a free full size bottle for scanning a bar code. After plugging my nose and chugging the bottle I about threw up. It tasted like skunk bath water and left a horrible after taste in my mouth. Never ever again.

I’ve been training for a marathon and never finish a long run without coconut water. Last marathon, I was sore for days after long runs, but coconut water has eliminated that. I spend the rest of my day acting like all I did that morning was go for a little walk around the block (but really, I just ran 20 miles). Amazing. I will never look back. It’s just hard to find…

Thank God! Finally! I feel like crying now.
I use to mix pure coconut water with some “Chemicals” (leading sport drinks) to get the fuel I need to hit the trails for hours, but now you come up with this, an alternative from Nature. This is just fantastic!! My choice will be definitely “PHENOM Energy” and I have got to have it for this Memorial Day weekend…. I will let you know the results. BTW, may I suggest another choice? “PHENOM Energy+Carbs” for Extreme Sports.
(what!? did this guy just say Carbs?)… Yes, carbs, if you don’t take carbs shots during an extreme competition (A 4 hours Mountain Bike race for instance), you’re done. Careful, this ultimate choice could upset the “G” guy. THANK YOU!!!

  80. Alex says:

I have chronic hypokalemia (low potassium) from an unknown reason, it is just always low. I also am very active, especially enjoying “hot yoga” which really dehydrates me. I had been drinking vegetable juices, and eating bananas galore, but the acid in the juice and the calories in the bananas, made me restict how much I took in. I tried many other coconut waters and really didn’t like the flavor until Phenom. I love the flavor, they agree with my digestive system, and the potassium and calorie content are right in line with my dietary requirements.

  81. Cheryl says:

Wow! Why didn’t I know coconuts offered such health benefits!? Will definitely try.

  82. Jennie says:
